Training
Registration
Owners must pre-register at least 24 hours in advance of all classes. You may
pre-register Monday through Friday between 7am - 7pm at Country Acres
Kennels, 7817 South Cooper St., Arlington, where the classes are taught. The
kennel is located on Cooper Street, 4 miles south of Interstate 20, and 1 mile
north of Highway 287 in south Arlington. The kennel donates space and staff to
help the Arlington Humane Society. All of the Humane Society classes are taught
by volunteers under the direction of the professional trainers, behavioral
psychologists and veterinarians at the kennel. Owners must bring vaccination
records and, if over 6 months of age, proof of heartworm prevention and
sterilization in order to register for any class. All dogs are required to be current
on vaccinations including DHLP, Parvo, Corona, Bordetella and if over 3 mos. old,
Rabies is required. Puppies should receive vaccinations at 6, 9, 12 and 16 weeks
of age. Dogs over 6 months old must be on heartworm prevention and be
sterilized. Dogs should also be free of all internal and external parasites.
The Humane Society sponsors several low-cost vaccination clinics and a low-cost spay/neuter program if
you wish to save money. Call (817) 468-0444 for more information on these programs. Orientation class
is required for adult dog class participants. This class lasts 2-2 ½ hours and is taught by one of several
behavioral psychologists on staff at Country Acres Kennels and concentrates on the academic side of dog
behavior. Classes fill up quickly so please pre-register for all classes as early as possible. Preference is
given to residents of Arlington, Mansfield and Grand Prairie, as this is the primary area served by the
Arlington Humane Society. However, space permitting, residents of other cities are welcome. At the time
of registration, the Humane Society asks that you to make a tax deductible donation of $95 or more.
Your generous donations go directly to support our programs. If you cannot afford this, let us know at
the time of registration. We will not turn anyone away.
For their protection and safety children are not allowed at classes.
Arlington Humane Society
Equipment for all Training classes is based on the age, experience level and personality of your dog. One
of our counselors will help you with the purchase of the correct equipment when you pre-register. Please
be prepared to purchase the correct equipment at that time.
